Amy Amatya
Amy Amatya is a violinist and composer from Los Angeles.
With a sharp technical ear and expressive playing style, she does studio sessions, live performances, remote string arrangement, bespoke compositions, and produces her own artist projects. Amy combines her foundation in classical orchestral music with a passion for environmental storytelling to build beautiful and haunting soundscapes.
She began piano lessons at age three and violin at eight. By age 17, she had already performed violin in symphonies like the NAfME All-National Orchestra; played the Walt Disney Concert Hall, Peacock Theater, and Grand Ole Opry; won local solo competitions; toured abroad with chamber ensembles; gigged weddings and corporate events around LA; performed with Lindsey Stirling and Weird Al.
Amy has a residency at Shiloh Teahouse where she does live improvised classical guitar+violin sets. She can pick up melodies by ear within the first few listens on both violin and piano. She performs live with artists including Corook, Khatumu, Isaak Presley, Yeemz, Tru, and records for Mon Rovia, Waitress, and callmestevieray. Favorite recent memories include opening for Chanel Beads in her duo project with electronic ambient artist Jazzy Romero, and playing classical guitar for the animated Adult Swim show Common Side Effects. More recently, she has been asked to compose to picture for her melancholic, Eastern-inflected style.
In her free time, she makes dark cinematic folk music as Kaigara, and instrumental music as Amy Amatya. Her currrent creative undertaking is an ambient album that incorporates improvisational piano and field recordings.
