Kaigara (Amy Amatya) is a dark folk singer-songwriter & violinist based in Los Angeles.

Amy has been studying classical music since age 3, first in piano and eventually focusing on violin.

By 17, she had already played in national orchestras; won local solo competitions; toured abroad with chamber ensembles; and shared stages with Lindsey Stirling and Weird Al.

She put music on hold to obtain a bachelors degree in earth science. After a few years on the east coast working as climate science writer, she has returned to LA to develop and self-produce her artist project, Kaigara, while continuing to gig, teach, record violin for others.

Her music draws heavily from her background in earth science, as well as her Nepali-Japanese heritage, and an obsession with post/apocalyptic worldbuilding.

“Kaigara” is the Japanese word for seashell.
